This journey of declaring spiritual warfare regarding my weight has been the fight of my life. It’s been enlightening, sobering, challenging and at times, heavy. Sometimes, I’m bombarded with thoughts from the enemy, “Don’t go to the gym, you don’t feel like it and your tired and not up to it…eat that chocolate on the table…oh, you just need something sweet…just eat, your hungry…it’s OK to eat in the middle of the night, you ate well all day…technically, you can wake up and eat, you’re not really asleep…treat yourself to this, you’ve been good on your regime…you need a break of being so disciplined, just eat…it’s OK to eat this now, just start over tomorrow…” and I can go on and on and on. This is what I hear when the enemy speaks to me regarding eating. For me, this challenge is with food, but this is the tactic he uses for all of us that are struggling with something. The enemy plants suggestions or thoughts in our minds and we either take the bait or resist him.
I’ve been on alert and paying more attention to my thoughts and voices I’m hearing. What’s that voice saying to me, what’s it suggesting and how am I responding? Since I’ve been on alert, I actually hear him talking to me, do this, do that, don’t do this, don’t do that. It’s amazing what you find out when your paying attention.
The bible say’s two things in our fight to overcome:
2 Corinthians 10:3-7 (NKJV)
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
James 4:7-10 (NKJV)
7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
After we’ve been battling with a stronghold for so long, we have to literally re-program our minds to think differently. We do this by replacing the lie with the word of God.
Philippians 4:8 (NLT)
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
When the thoughts comes to persuade us, when temptation arises within in us, we have TO ARISE AND SPEAK TO THAT THING, lay hands on ourselves and speak the truth, “Satan, I refuse you right now in the name of Jesus, I will not…You will not…Spirit of…I break your hold over me in the Name of Jesus…Spirit of…Go NOW in the Name of Jesus…The Holy Spirit Empowers me to resist you and I overcome right now in the name of Jesus…I ARISE and Speak To Myself…Flesh, fall in line with the will of God…I will not disobey God…Holy Spirit, I receive Grace to overcome…”
Once we recognize the thoughts of satan, we have to immediately refute and cast it down. We can’t dwell on the suggestions of the enemy, when we linger, we give him room to allow ourselves to reason away God’s truth.
John Paul Jackson say’s in Unlocking Heaven’s Power,
“we become what we think and make room in our lives for what we focus on.”
Once we recognize the thoughts of satan in our mind, that’s God’s call for us to be obedient. Pastor Maldonado said in the below video, if satan keeps attacking us with the same thoughts in a specific area, God is trying to get our attention to become obedient in that area. That concept right there made me think. If I keep getting attacked in a specific area, that’s the area where God is showing me my weakness and my need to fall in line with His will. Satan can only attack us where there’s a hole, an open door for him to go in and out of. Even if we fall, we have to persevere by giving it our best to resist satan and say NO and keep saying NO!
Our struggles is God’s opportunity to strengthen us where we’re weak. We have to allow Him to finish the work in us. We have to be willing to die, to hurt a little so that Christ’s ultimate purpose for our lives will come to pass. There’s more awaiting us, doors waiting to be opened as we say Yes to God and No the the enemy.
