I’m realizing in my journey to overcome struggles and fight for my own deliverance, I’ve come to understand one thing: Obedience is the key that unlocks every door to breakthrough and freedom. However, before we can become obedient, there’s a spirit we have to confront that stands in the way of our obedience.
Joshua 3 (NLT) says,
3 giving these instructions to the people: “When you see the Levitical priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord your God, move out from your positions and follow them. 4 Since you have never traveled this way before, they will guide you.
7 The Lord told Joshua, “Today I will begin to make you a great leader in the eyes of all the Israelites. They will know that I am with you, just as I was with Moses.
8 Give this command to the priests who carry the Ark of the Covenant: ‘When you reach the banks of the Jordan River, take a few steps into the river and stop there.’”
9 So Joshua told the Israelites, “Come and listen to what the Lord your God says. 10 Today you will know that the living God is among you. He will surely drive out the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites ahead of you.
You wanna know what holds most of us back from moving forward in overcoming and rising above our today and yesterday?
FEAR!
Before we can even move towards the direction we’re trying to go in, FEAR perches itself over us daring us to move. Before we can even get started in walking out our obedience, fear grips our heart with the impossibilities of what can go wrong or the pain we might endure as a result of obedience and we shrink back out of fear.
What is fear? Fear is a form of faith, but in the opposite form. Fear is faith that something bad will happen whereas faith is the hope that something good will happen.
One of the Giants in the promise-land that represents terror and fear are the Hittites. In my studies of understanding the various giants I have to confront in conquering my promise-land, the Hittites represent forms of fears, phobias, deceit, subliminal terrors, depression, and intimidation.
In my journey, I’ve come to understand that before I could even start my journey of being obedient, I had to start praying for the courage to confront some things I’ve been avoiding or scared of. I didn’t realize that my lack of movement was a form of fear and not so much my unwillingness to be obedient. It was fear holding me back to walk through the doors Jesus was leading me to.
When God gave the command for the Levitical Priest to move out from their positions and asked them to step into the river and stop, I’m almost certain they had questions, uncertainties and quaked with some form of fear. With any new or unknown territory we take on, most of us have some form of fear or doubt and for others, they’re petrified.
I’m learning today, Fear is the giant I have to confront. During my time of consecration, I’ve been confronting the very things that make me quake and speaking to it. I’ve been wresting with each thing, holding it before God and declaring His word over it. During this process, I’m gripping fear by the horns and declaring NO! You will not…I will not…you will not…I command you…I speak…I loose…I bind…I declare….
When I had to confront the issues of my past, God said He’d be with me if I moved toward the very things that terrified me. With reluctance, I prayed, then I moved and He then gave me the courage to confront. If I allowed my fear to continue to paralyze me, you wouldn’t be reading this post today, there’d be no B.O.O.M! and I’d still be mulling over possibilities with no potential and questioning my purpose.
I encourage you today, pray and fast with whatever terrifies you the most and as God was with Moses and Joshua before they conquered their promise-land, He’ll be with you. Everyday, we have to choose to be brave, move and He’ll have something special on the other-side of fear that’ll release our blessing. Be blessed people of God, there’s more awaiting you.
Continue to join me as I share with you what the Lord is sharing with me about overcoming. As always, Be Encouraged, Stay Connected, Fight and Let’s Become Free Together.
In His Name,
