If there’s one thing that I have to say I deal with almost everyday or something that’s usually staring me in my face consistently, I’d have to say it’d be my weaknesses. Everyday, I have to go before the Lord and submit those things to His feet, those area’s I can’t control, those things that weigh me down, the things that I struggle with daily but desire to improve. Life is a journey of overcoming weaknesses, but today, The Lord wants to encourage us that in Him, there’s help and there’s a purpose in our every struggle if we’ll allow Him to use it to bring Him glory.
Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT) says,
14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Hebrews 5:1-3 goes on to say,
5 Every high priest is a man chosen to represent other people in their dealings with God. He presents their gifts to God and offers sacrifices for their sins. 2 And he is able to deal gently with ignorant and wayward people because he himself is subject to the same weaknesses. 3 That is why he must offer sacrifices for his own sins as well as theirs.
What is all of this saying?
God is letting us know that there’s a purpose for our weaknesses. I know for me, I’m a perfectionist, so the sign of my weaknesses make me cringe, fearful and I don’t rest until I conquer them. But even in that, I have to learn that I’m imperfect and when I see these weaknesses, God’s exposing an area in me that needs perfecting and because I’m called in Him, He plans on turning that weakness into my strength and as I go into prayer and submit to Him, He’ll empower me with grace to overcome.
We’re all called by God to carry out His purpose upon the earth. Every purpose and calling of each individual is different and unique to them. No one can fulfill the purpose we’re assigned and created for but us. In God’s ultimate wisdom, He weaves our weaknesses in with our purpose to birth what we’re created to fulfill upon the earth.
Because we’re called for greater things in Christ, those same weaknesses that we despise will be the same weaknesses that God will use to fulfill our purpose and cause us to have greater impact, empathy and sympathy to effectively help and minister to His people.
I’m truly understanding now that God ordained my weaknesses and as I submit to Him and work through the area’s where I struggle, He’ll use it and matter of fact, He’ll open up doors for me I couldn’t open for myself and whatever area I overcome, I’ll be empowered to step into purpose to help others overcome those same struggles.
But what God is looking for from me is SACRIFICE. I have to be willing to sacrifice myself, be uncomfortable, go through some pain, go through His process of submitting and resisting in my fight to overcome. As we learn to go through and win, we too can then learn to intercede and stand in the gap for those struggling just like we are, just like the high priest with prayers, pleadings and travailing on behalf of God’s people.
Are we willing to sacrifice ourselves, submit to God, resist the devil so we can overcome not just for ourselves, but for God’s people?
Hebrew 5:8 goes on to say,
8 Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. 9 In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him.
Every weakness is God’s opportunity of greatness yet unfolded. There’s a reward as we press through our struggles and overcome, there’s an elevation and promise that awaits us. I don’t have to be and we don’t have to be afraid of signs of weaknesses, it’s God’s way of strengthening us that we may conquer the world through Him.
