In my fight to break free of old habits, I’ve noticed one thing: I have to fight to keep my deliverance. This isn’t new knowledge, but I got comfortable these last two weeks and let my guard down. I thought I had things under control, but the enemy let me know these last two nights I don’t and I need to go back to the drawing board.
God can and will bring our healing and deliverance. Despite how it may look and no matter what we struggle with here on earth, God desires and wants His people to be free. Sometimes God allows us to be delivered from a stronghold in an instant and we never look back. Other times, He allows us to go through the process of our own deliverance and wants us to fight to MAINTAIN our freedom. Sometimes we may question God regarding our deliverance process and at times be angry or disappointed that he allows us to struggle with certain things. Sometimes we feel let down by God as to why He hasn’t ‘taken’ some things from us.
I’ve come to know the hard way that He’s Sovereign and WE HAVE TO LET GO AND LEARN TO TRUST IN HIS SOVEREIGNTY. Only Christ truly understands what lies ahead and how these current challenges prepare us for things to come. Like my issue with my weight loss, if He has me going through this process and never simply delivered me, its for a purpose and the purpose is for my good and the good of His people. I’ve learned through much tears and travailing over the struggles of my life to be okay with God’s process. I’m still learning.
I remember having an ungodly soul tie with a young man I’d dated for years. I thought I truly was in love and when you engage in a relationship and all the facets of that relationships but without being married, you open your self up to having an ungodly soul tie with that person. Once you allow yourself to get connected to someone’s soul, the enemy has a grip on you and he will not let you go. In order to be free from a stronghold that has you hemmed up by the neck and controls you, you need the power of the Holy Ghost to be free. That type of stronghold requires fasting, prayer, endurance and supernatural power from God to be set free.
I remember going through deep sorrow and depression over the loss of that relationship. I kept saying to God ‘Lord, I’m waiting for you to deliver me from my brokenness….’ God spoke sharply to me, “You’re not waiting for me, I’m waiting for YOU to deliver yourself…” I was like Arnold from Different Strokes, ‘What’cho talking bout Willis….” I was like ‘Whaaat!’ shocked and bewildered. WHAT DID GOD MEAN HE WAS WAITING FOR ME TO DELIVER MYSELF?
How Can We Deliver Ourselves From Things That Keep Us Bound?

Meditate on these Scriptures:
Matthew 12:43-45
An Unclean Spirit Returns
43 “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44 Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first…
1 Peter 5:5-11
5…serve each other in humility, for “God opposes the proud but favors the humble.
6So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. 7Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.
10 In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. 11 All power to him forever! Amen.
James 4:7 NIV |
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
