While studying Ephesians 1, it never dawned on me that the Power and Authority Christ has given the Church is a direct result of God’s Love Towards US. In my pursuit of trying to understand Power and Authority, I’ve discovered that God’s Love is one of the main foundational truths which gives us access to our true Position in Christ, moreover, the ability to understand that in our RELATIONSHIP with Him, He has given us Power and Authority and everything else in Heaven as a free gift and it was all given out of His Love.
This scripture couldn’t say it any better:
Ephesians 1:3-5 (GNT) says,
3 Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! For in our UNION with Christ he has blessed us by giving us every spiritual blessing in the heavenly world. 4 Even before the world was made, God had already chosen us to be his through our union with Christ, so that we would be holy and without fault before him.
Because of his love 5 God[b] had already decided that through Jesus Christ he would make us his children—this was his pleasure and purpose. 6 Let us praise God for his glorious grace, for the free gift he gave us in his dear Son!
A few things The Lord made me aware of in this scripture:
- When we gave our life to Christ, we became One with Him. As soon as we’re saved, we’re AUTOMATICALLY UNITED to Christ, we’re adopted as Children and not just ordinary children, children of a King, which automatically makes us heirs of royalty. We now obtain a state of oneness and an inheritance with our King and everything Christ is and Has, BELONGS TO US TOO. It’s a GIFT.
- Because we’re now United and One with Christ, we AUTOMATICALLY INHERITED all that He is and has, PLUS, His Power and Authority He’s been given in Heaven and on Earth. Therefore, we’ve inherited Power + Authority like He has on earth.
- Simply put, we’re not only Chosen and Predestined in Christ, but because of our RELATIONSHIP with Him, we have access to everything in Heaven because of His sacrifice.
What an amazing gift from an amazing God!!!!!!!
So, what made God want to give us every spiritual blessing in the heavenly world in Christ?
Love. Love. Love.
God is Love. God created a people He desired to love. God wanted Children like we want children. As parents, we want to look in our children’s eyes and see our reflection. When God looks at us, He sees His reflection. He took joy in crafting and molding us as we take joy in the development of our baby’s being formed in our womb…the excitement of every detail.
God longed for a relationship with His Children. Like any parent, we eagerly wait for our kids to be born, weep at their arrival and stare at the wonder of their creation. Our hearts melt over our kids and the bond we share with them is unbreakable. We’re possessive over our kids and wouldn’t let anyone hurt, harm or endanger them in any way. We’d die protecting, loving and giving them the world. As parents, if someone dare try to steal our baby, hurt their heart in any way, or destroy our affections or bond with them, we’d seriously hurt them and would die a billion deaths protecting, preserving and getting them back. God, Our Father, who lives in Heaven felt the same way towards us. It was God, the Ultimate Father and Parent whose RELENTLESS Love towards us drove Him to die a thousand deaths on a rugged cross to get back His children from eternal death, hell and destruction.
Imagine sacrificing your one and only child and ALLOWING them to endure such a horrible death? Unimaginable! That’s God’s love and gift towards us in Jesus and it cost Him everything so we can be spared. Not only did God take pleasure in going to the ends of the earth to get us back, but wanted to restore our rightful position as His Children, His Family and wants us to have the Kingdom. It saddens Him that He died to give us so much and so many gifts, and we walk around fatherless, empty-handed and powerless being tossed to and fro by the enemy.
It was love that drove Christ to the grave and now seats Him at the right hand of God Our Father Almighty who freely gives us all things PLUS Power and Dominion upon the earth. Christ didn’t just die to save us, but on earth, gave us gifts that we might live victoriously upon the earth and be effective for Him. He wants our hearts again so He can do a new thing in us so we too, can walk in our Power and Authority like His Son. That’s a Father’s Love…No Matter What…It’s always there…always unconditional…always wanting to give us the best of His Kingdom. Christ did His part, we have to do ours. Let’s soak and get connected with the Love of God. Once we understand His love and acceptance, we then can embrace the gifts that was freely given to set us free.
What a Love and A Good, Good Father we have in Jesus.

“Don’t despise small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” Let’s continue to press forward in our work for Him. More awaits us.
