As previously stated in other blog posts, to help me overcome obesity and stay motivated to achieve health and wholeness in my life, I’ve committed to listening daily to faith building or motivational messages to help me achieve my dreams. Lisa Nichols, a Transformation Coach, said it best and it was this one commitment that helped her achieve her greatness today, “I was willing to die completely to any form of me I’d been, so that I could birth the woman I was becoming.”
That word r-e-a-l-l-y resonated with me like thunder and caused me to reflect on my own behaviors which causes me to stumble and moves me away from my purpose. The Lord whispered to me after hearing that and said, “what are you willing to give up and die to so that all I’ve promised you can come to pass?”
The Lord is asking you too,
“What are you willing to give up and die to so that all I’ve promised you can come to pass?”
In order to know that answer, we have to really dig deep and look within ourselves. Here are some question’s I’ve asked myself during my prayer time:
- What causes me to stumble?
- What things do I do that delay my purpose?
- What am I willing to give up and die to so that all God’s promised me, can come to pass?
- Am I willing to make a commitment to give up that ‘thing” for the sake of my purpose?
There’s a new person in me God is trying to birth, but it’s me holding me back at times, me holding onto old habits, old patterns of doing things, old thought processes and my own reasoning that delays my progress in God, hence, delaying my dream and postponing my purpose.
I can tell you one of the things that get’s in the way of fulfilling my purpose is sleep eating. It’s something in Christ I can change, but I haven’t gotten a grip on it as of yet. Sleep eating makes me mad, feel weak but in that moment, it gratifies my flesh. Sleep eating at times makes me feel vulnerable and powerless although in Christ, I know that to be a lie. Sleep eating does one thing for me and one thing only, it satisfies and pleases my flesh and feeds a habit that I’ve developed as a kid.
So what is it? Why won’t I put it down? It’s the war between my desires, my cravings and hunger against the Spirit, Righteousness and Life. I give into to my flesh to gratify a fleeting craving but pay a hefty price in the morning with guilt, shame and defeat. In my sleep, I make excuses for my behavior and in that moment, I’m zoned out on a mission to satisfy my flesh. It’s bad. It’s horrifying to wake up after eating someone else’s food to have them annoyed or mad at you in the morning.
A couple of things The Lord is ministering to me as I’m writing about dying in our flesh:
- You have to be willing to suffer for what you want. If you can’t suffer with Christ, you can’t reign with Him.
- You have to be willing to deny your flesh, your desires, your cravings for that moment so that what your hoping for, it’ll come to pass.
- In everything you do, you always have to be lead by the “Why” and with the “End result” in mind. Whatever you’re trying to achieve, your decisions and choices have to revolve around that expected end. You have to keep in front of your eyes your vision and purpose.
- You have to know the truth about what a) I say you are b) who’s you are c) what I put in you d)what in Heaven belongs to you
The bible is very clear on what our position is in Him:
Ephesians 2:6,10 (GNT)
6 In our union with Christ Jesus He raised us up with him to rule with him in the heavenly world. 10 God has made us what we are, and in our union with Christ Jesus he has created us for a life of good deeds, which he has already prepared for us to do.
Ephesians 1: (GNT)
19 and how very great is his power at work in us who believe. This power working in us is the same as the mighty strength 20 which he used when he raised Christ from death and seated him at his right side in the heavenly world.
21 Christ rules there above all heavenly rulers, authorities, powers, and lords; he has a title superior to all titles of authority in this world and in the next.
22 God put all things under Christ’s feet and gave him to the church as supreme Lord over all things.
23 The church is Christ’s body, the completion of him who himself completes all things everywhere.
Lisa Nichols goes onto say in her interview on the Inside Quest on YouTube,
” The reason why a lot of people don’t become who they want is because they’re too attached to who they’ve been….I was willing to let go of everything and everybody….”
So, what continues to be the problem for me? I realize as I’m writing that I’m holding onto somethings and there’s an subconscious unwillingness to let it go. Why? I’m not sure, this is the thing I need to pray about. If I know sleep eating is bad, and I know the truth in God’s word that I have Power and Authority and I’m seated with Christ and no longer ruled by my flesh, why won’t I just exercise my authority and tell myself No? Apparently, there’s something else going on that’ll I need to take before the Lord.
It’s painful to tell yourself No and suffer. Naturally, no one ever want’s to suffer. But if I’m going to move forward towards my purpose, something has to give and at some point, I have to be willing to die to the very things I love, die to the things I’m accustomed to, let go of the things that make me afraid and die to the old Ke’Shawn and let the new Ke’Shawn be birthed. There are some things where I just have to get out of my own way. I want to soar in Christ, but in order to soar, I have to be okay with dying first.
God has so much more to say. Continue to join me as I share with you what God’s sharing with me about overcoming. As always, Be encouraged, Stay Connected, Fight and Let’s Become Free Together.
