Hello B.O.O.M! Family. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to post real-time triumphs, struggles and updates, so here I am! These last few months have been something. I’ve made a lot of progress, but it’s been an intense struggle. Hands down, the number one lesson I’m learning in my fight against obesity is this one thing: “Losing Weight Requires Spiritual Muscle and Requires Spiritual Warfare! Y-E-E-S! Y-E-E-S! Y-E-E-E-S-S!
We all know faith without works is dead, so yes, you do need to adopt practical applications to help with any venture you undertake whether it’s losing weight or focusing on your career etc. HOWEVER, to stay committed, on task, goal oriented, focused, consistently fighting off your own fleshly desires and the temptations coming straight from Hell, you absolutely, hands down need direct access to the Power of Heaven and straight up Help from Jesus…it’s crazy!
I’ve noticed a few months ago, at one point, I had my eating regime down pack…it came easy. But out of nowhere, all of a sudden, my appetite was insatiable…all I wanted to do was eat…all kinds of foods…all times of hours…whatever I can get my hands on. I was seriously in a battle ground…sometimes I won and sometimes I lost…just couldn’t get a grip on my eating. For months, it was smooth sailing, then, I was knocked straight off my feet. …it became harder and harder and I couldn’t understand why…the more I fought, the more I lost and the more miserable I became. At this point, all I wanted to do was go into hibernation from all of the defeat I was having. What happened? Then God spoke,
John 15:5-8 (NKJV)
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will[b] ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
What was The Lord saying to me? “You’re fighting this war in your own strength. You keep trying to get your behavior right, but you’re not tapping into the power source that gets your behavior right and allows you to conquer temptation and win. You’re in my presence, but, you’ve moved from operating in faith over conquering your flesh and now, you’ve moved over to works, just going through the motions of trying really hard to FIX your behavior, but there is no power in works alone…everything around your success and failure is spiritual. Go back to the basics of what you’ve learned so long ago, abide in me, receive your strength from me in faith, come into my presence, sit in my presence, ask for help and receive strength…I’ll give it to you…I will help you…And know this My Daughter, I’M NOT MAD AT YOU FOR FALLING…I’m here to help you…I don’t condemn you when you’re struggling and fall into temptation, I allow temptation to come to strengthen you so you’ll learn how to fight…I love you…I’m not MAD at you, so forgive yourself, get back up and keep going…I love you and I’m here to help you. Abide in Me, Apart From Me You Can Do Nothing, But With Me, You Can Do Everything!”
As soon as The Lord gave me that scripture and spoke to my heart, I literally felt guilt, shame and condemnation leave me and felt revitalized again…I didn’t feel like a recluse any longer…I felt empowered to get back up. There is a lot to be said about the spirit of guilt, shame and condemnation when you’ve fallen and how it utterly strips you of your power, makes you hide from others and alienates you from God.
This for me, is where the battle gets hard and I’ve given up in the past…but no longer! I’m going to leave you with the keys to what Christ is telling me regarding weight loss in my life:
“Your weight loss is directly connected to your connection to Me…you can’t go through the motions in your fight to overcome…you have to abide, dwell, spend some quality time with Me…in your heart, receive My strength and Grace to overcome…My people never conquer obesity because they’re going through the motions, in works of flesh. You can’t fight satan in his attack to destroy your body in your flesh, you have to fight him in the spirit and it’s a spiritual fight. If you’re weak spiritually, you’re weak physically, but if you are strong in your spirit, you can conquer everything. You Abide in Me by:
- being quiet in My Presence
- letting Me fill you up
- making time to be intimate with Me
- falling on your knees in prayer during temptation
- working my word over your flesh
- activating your faith
- letting My Word wash over your mind and help you to focus on your vision and your end prize.
- Most importantly, understanding the power of the cross and what it accomplished for you already. You Already Won…Walk In It! Believe It! Speak It! Stand! Fight! Don’t Give UP! You Have Power! You Are Not Weak! Abide In Me & I WILL GIVE YOU STRENGTH”
As I spoke The Word over myself today, this scripture stuck out and it really empowered me to know who I am and what I’m capable to do:
Hebrews 11: 33-34 (NKJV)
THROUGH FAITH I subdue kingdoms, work righteousness, obtain promises, stop the mouths of lions, quench the violence of fire, escape the edge of the sword, OUT OF WEAKNESS I AM MADE STRONG, I am valiant in battle, I turn to flight the armies of the aliens.
Continue to join me. I’ll be posting updated pics of my weight loss, I haven’t arrived, but learning to embrace the small victories I’ve accomplished and celebrate that.
