For almost 16 years, I’ve felt immensely powerless to overcome obesity due to my epic failures of my past, until now.
The Lord has been ministering to me through the book of Joshua 6, defeating our Jericho.
Joshua 5:13-15 (NLT)
13 When Joshua was near the town of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and demanded, “Are you friend or foe?”
14 “Neither one,” he replied. “I am the commander of the Lord’s army.”
At this, Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence. “I am at your command,” Joshua said. “What do you want your servant to do?”
15 The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did as he was told.
6:1-5
6 Now the gates of Jericho were tightly shut because the people were afraid of the Israelites. No one was allowed to go out or in. 2 But the Lord said to Joshua, “I have given you Jericho, its king, and all its strong warriors. 3 You and your fighting men should march around the town once a day for six days. 4 Seven priests will walk ahead of the Ark, each carrying a ram’s horn. On the seventh day you are to march around the town seven times, with the priests blowing the horns. 5 When you hear the priests give one long blast on the rams’ horns, have all the people shout as loud as they can. Then the walls of the town will collapse, and the people can charge straight into the town.”
A couple of things The Lord pointed out to me in this passage,
- When the problem, conquest or assignment of conquering Jericho seemed insurmountable, The Lord sent supernatural help.
- When The Lord issued a decree to take down a giant, His actual presence was with them.
- He told them the battle plan, as strange and simple as it may have seemed, all they needed to do was step out on faith, believe, obey and He’d fight their battles.
My Jericho for the past 16 years has been my weight. For every attempt I’ve made to get my weight under control, I’d almost get there to victory and then I’d be hauled 10 steps backwards. My weight loss roller coaster ride has been a tremendous curse and undefeated giant in my life until now. Even today, with the tremendous accomplishments I’ve made, my obesity from time to time mocks me and I’m constantly reminded of how much further I have to go.
In the book, “Adventuring Through The Bible” by Ray C. Stedman, he said something very interesting,
“The city of Jericho symbolizes those problems…that have baffled and mocked us for years. God has Israel march for seven days. Why that long? Because it took them that long to change their attitude toward Jericho. All that time they were thinking, ‘What a huge place. How will we ever take this city? Day after day, while walking around this city, they had time to think about God in their midst, the power that He had already displayed, and what He could do again. Gradually, their attitude changed so that on the seventh day they shouted in triumph and the walls fell down. There was nothing to it when they obeyed.”
God wants us to take our eyes off the size of our Jericho. It may seem impossible for us, but it’s not impossible for God. Even in our failures, nothing is ever wasted in Christ.
If it’s taken us a long time to finally begin defeating our Jericho, during our process, The Lord is circumcising our hearts to receive His promise, He’s changing our thoughts, minds, attitudes and perceptions about ourselves in Him and truly defining for us Who He says He is. While we walk around our Jericho, He’s teaching us spiritual warfare and most importantly, He’s laying out the master battle plan for us to follow and sending help to ensure our success and victory.
Today, the Christ in me, in us, truly allows us to say, TODAY, our Jericho is defeated. Our Jericho is not bigger than us, we are BIGGER than it. I decree and declare right now, We are changed men and women of God. We will walk around our giants in the presence of God, decree and declare who God says we are, obey His instructions and shout with the voice of triumph and those walls right now, in Name of Jesus, come tumbling down, Hallelujah!!!!!!
Definitely watch this very, Beautifully Inspiring!!!
