We have TWO months left until we close 2017 (I know, WOW!). As we drawer nearer to the end 2017, The Lord wants us to examine, “What would you like to see happen in 2017? What have you done with the instructions I’d given you for this season, this year of your life?”
It feels like we just started this year, full of goals, aspirations and hope. The question is, where are we now in obtaining those goals? Have we made any progress this year? Are we right back where we started from, same ole stuff, different day?
As I’ve been reading the book of Joshua, The Lord has been pulling out some really interesting scripture that’s applicable to what I’m dealing with today, Compromise & Completion to what He’s called me too, specifically, overcoming the stronghold of obesity.
Joshua 6:2, 6-17 says,
2 The Lord said to Joshua, “I am putting into your hands Jericho, with its king and all its brave soldiers. 16…Joshua ordered the people to shout, and he said, “The Lord has given you the city! 17 The city and everything in it must be totally destroyed as an offering to the Lord.
Joshua 7:1, 20-21, 25 goes onto to say,
7 The Lord‘s command to Israel not to take from Jericho anything that was to be destroyed was not obeyed. A man named Achan disobeyed that order…20 “It’s true,” Achan answered. “I have sinned against the Lord, Israel’s God, and this is what I did. 21 Among the things we seized I saw a beautiful Babylonian cloak, about five pounds of silver, and a bar of gold weighing over one pound. I wanted them so much that I took them. You will find them buried inside my tent, with the silver at the bottom.”
25 And Joshua said, “Why have you brought such trouble on us? The Lord will now bring trouble on you!” All the people then stoned Achan to death; they also stoned and burned his family and possessions.
What does all of this have to do with compromise and completing what The Lord has instructed us to do? EVERYTHING!
The Lord is trying to give us more, we have to resolve with everything in us to do EXACTLY what He’s asking of us or, suffer the consequences of our inactivity, disobedience to God or suffer the feelings of lack of fulfillment. I know for me, in all things, good or bad times, I know I have to continue to press forward and complete my assignment of overcoming obesity.
As I read “Adventuring Through The Bible” by Ray C. Stedman, states,
“Ai, then, is an instructive and sobering lesson: God expects us to deal COMPLETELY with our lusts. He expects us to obey Him without rationalizing or compromising with sin. Even a seemingly small sin can have disastrous consequences…
The key to gaining victory on the battlefield was to gain victory over the inner enemy, the lurking, secret sin within. Once we gain victory over the problems of the flesh, the spiritual warfare ceases to be a problem. God is able to act and win the battle for us.”
For me, I’ve had quite a few setback in tackling obesity this year. Have I been diligent in a lot of areas, absolutely, have I’ve been struggling with consistency with my food choices, absolutely. I may not lose all my weight by the end of 2017, but I tell you, before this year is out, I want to see a major dent on that scale, in inches, my body and my mind.
Folks, time is going by so fast, it’s actually pretty scary. What will we do with the time we have left. Let’s commit to The Lord that for the remainder of 2017, we’re willing to suffer, fight, sacrifice everything so we can make Christ pleased and leave 2017 new and improved people of God.
This year, let’s complete our assignments, drive out our enemies once and for all and fully walk in the victory, power & authority of Christ. If we put our mind to it in Christ, WE CAN DO ANYTHING!
