“Our Biggest Fight: Dying To Self & What It’ll Cost You & Other’s If You Don’t” Part 11

I heard a quote the other day and basically, it summed up my entire physical transformation experience and why I won’t give up, “When you feel like quitting, remember WHY you got started!” It’s the WHY, the origin behind any great challenge that keeps you motivated to ride that storm out until the end. For me, it was in that secret place where God explained to me not only WHY I needed to begin my weight loss transformation, but, ALL I’d forfeit if I didn’t.

God never does anything haphazardly, He’s purposeful. No matter what the struggle or challenge you need to press through is, usually, your resilience or resolve to make it through until the end is connected to something bigger than yourself AND, it impacts the people around you as well as impacts the outcome of certain circumstances for either good or bad.

When God spoke to me about overcoming obesity, He was very clear,

“All I have planned for you if you’d just buckle down and finish your course. Your purpose upon the earth and all you’ll do for me is attached to overcoming the stronghold of obesity. I’ll use that very struggle and use it as a platform for you to speak to the nations. You’re destiny is tied up in your overcoming obesity”

Nothing, and I mean nothing, rocked the core of my existence until I heard those words. You mean to tell me that my weight loss is not just me wanting to lose weight or become healthier, but there’s a destiny and calling attached to my weight loss?  How so?

Had I never struggled trying to overcome obesity and just continued to simplify the problem as being ‘my own’ personal individual struggle, I never would have known the impact it has not just in my circle of influence, but so much more. Every week, I have the opportunity to speak to thousands through this blog. Every week, God has given me a platform to speak for Him not just in America, but places I’ve never seen around the world. Every week, my vulnerability speaks to the hearts of someone who’s hopeless and struggling alone and through this blog, is encouraged to continue to press and find purpose.

My entire life, I’ve never battled to this degree with my weight, I never was 325 pounds up until recently. God lead me here, down this dark dusty road and planned on using this struggle, one of my biggest heartbreaks to teach me about deliverance. Through fighting this stronghold, ministry and purpose was birthed. Had I continued in selfish behavior and just thought of myself and not began to resolve my issue of obesity, I could be dead, my family without a wife, mother, daughter, AND most horribly, my legacy and fingerprint upon the earth would be lost.

So, WHY do we need to overcome our struggles, big or small?

There’s an assignment attached to my life that only I can fulfill.  There’s an assignment attached to YOUR life only YOU can fulfill that impacts the world, the nations and generations to come. Also, Hosea 4:6 says “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” Our ignorance and lack of knowing our purpose leads to our demise.

No matter what your struggle is, know this, it impacts you, your growth in Christ and your level of influence. Who knows, it can be that thing that’s stopping you from growing further in Christ until it’s addressed and that thing we struggle with, big or small, perhaps, just perhaps may be standing in the way of our greatest experience with God and our greatest testimony.

Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV) says,

7 …and in all your getting, get understanding.

It was getting an understanding of the call on my life regarding my obesity that is saving my life. Before I had that revelation, I couldn’t lose weight nor, was I motivated to do so. When I realized something was really wrong WHY I couldn’t get a handle on my weight, I sought God with my everything. As I pressed and waited for answers, He gave them to me.

The revelation of WHY I needed to overcome saved my life and when this journey becomes too hard, I think upon my call, my vow to God, my purpose and then I think about you, the readers of B.O.O.M! and those that follow my progress that need me to overcome so they too can overcome. I think about my children, my family and I realize the giants I don’t defeat, I’ll leave for them to fight and I then, I press again.

I encourage you, understand one thing, you’re breakthrough, no matter how big or small YOU may think it may be, it’s connected to something bigger and greater and it could be that very thing that you’ve been waiting for, your greatest breakthrough and The Lord’s biggest dream for your life.

I encourage you, seek God relentlessly about your struggle and WHY it’s important you overcome.  If you give Him time and space to speak to you about your struggle, purpose and destiny, He’ll speak to you and show you what’s at stake.  Once His truth is revealed, grace will follow, BUT, you have to resolve in your mind to DIE TO EVERYTHING standing in your way. We have no time to delay, our destiny and lost souls are awaiting.

Colossians 4:17(NIV)

17 …See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 2:9 (NKJV)

9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

Continue to to join me as I share with you what Christ is sharing with me about overcoming. As always, Be Encouraged, Stay Connected, Fight and Let’s Become Free Together!
